The B.Des. in Health & Care Design prepares students to be health innovation strategists - designers who start from the lived experience of patients, carers, and clinicians and work outward toward health systems, policy, and strategy. Most health innovations fail not because the underlying idea doesn't work clinically, but because nobody designed the strategy to move them from a lab or prototype into a functioning health system. This program trains graduates to navigate regulatory pathways, build economic cases, design for how clinicians actually change practice, and centre patient and carer experience rather than treat it as secondary to clinical efficacy. From foundational health systems understanding in Year 2, through applied innovation strategy with real clinical partners across two full semesters in Year 3, to an independently authored Capstone in Year 4, graduates are equipped to close the gap between health innovation and health impact.

Use design thinking and visual methods to explore, research, observe patterns, reflect on insights, and craft compelling stories that communicate ideas, inspire action, and create meaningful impact.
Design Studio 1
Design Studio 1 introduces creative exploration through design thinking, observation, research, and storytelling. Students develop problem-solving, visual communication, and reflective practice skills to address real-world challenges.
Drawing Fundamentals 1
Drawing Fundamentals 1 builds core visual skills through observation, sketching, composition, and form. Students explore line, shape, proportion, and perspective to strengthen creative expression and design communication.
Imaging 1
Imaging 1 introduces digital and analog imaging techniques, exploring composition, light, and narrative. Students learn visual storytelling, image editing, and creative expression for design and communication.

Space and Materiality explores relationships between form, material, and environment. Students experiment with textures, structures, and spatial design to understand sensory impact, function, and creative possibilities.
History in Context to Objects
History in Context to Objects examines cultural, social, and historical influences on objects. Students analyze artifacts to understand design evolution, material significance, and contextual storytelling.

This studio sits alongside the care experience studio but asks a different question: not 'what does care feel like from the inside' but 'how does the system that delivers care actually work'.
Introduction to Public Health & Epidemiology
This course provides the quantitative and conceptual foundations of public health that every health innovation designer needs: how disease and illness distribute across populations and how population-level interventions are designed and evaluated.
Health Systems, Policy & Governance
This course provides a structured understanding of how health systems are organised, financed, and governed - in India and internationally.
Design Research for Health & Care
This course builds the research methods toolkit specifically for health and care design contexts - a domain with particular ethical, relational, and regulatory demands.
Human Biology for Innovators
This course provides the biological literacy that health innovation designers need to work credibly across the clinical-design boundary - not to replace clinical expertise, but to engage with it intelligently.

Health & Care Design Studio II: Patient, Carer & Clinician Experience Design
This studio deepens the care experience work begun in Semester 3 by moving from mapping to designing, requiring students to redesign a specific care experience from the perspective of the patient, the carer, and the clinician simultaneously.
Care Pathway & Service Design Studio
This studio applies the service design methods of the broader B.Des. portfolio to the specific challenge of redesigning care pathways - the sequences of interactions, decisions, referrals, and transitions a patient moves through.
Ethics, Equity & Responsibility in Health Design
This course is mandatory and sits at the centre of the program's values, in a domain where design decisions can have direct consequences for people's health, dignity, and access to care.
Digital Health, Telemedicine & Connected Care
This course provides a structured introduction to the digital health landscape - not as a technology course, but as a policy, design, and systems course.
Interaction Design for Health Interfaces
This course develops the craft skills of interaction design specifically applied to health contexts: patient-facing apps, clinical dashboards, telemedicine interfaces, and health information systems.

This course provides the economic literacy that health innovators need to build innovations that health systems will actually fund and adopt.
Regulatory Navigation for Health Innovation
India's regulatory environment for health innovation is complex, often opaque, and genuinely consequential for whether an innovation can reach patients.
Health Technology Assessment & Adoption Strategy
Health technologies fail to reach patients not primarily because of clinical inadequacy but because of adoption failure - because the health system, the clinical community, or the patients themselves do not take them up.
AI-Assisted Health Analytics for Designers
This course develops the AI and data analytics literacy that health innovation designers need to evaluate claims about AI diagnostics and predictive analytics, and to direct AI tools in their own practice.

Applied Studio II: Health Innovation Brief - Phase 2
This is the second half of the two-semester applied studio. Building on the design brief developed in Phase 1, students move into design, prototyping, and evaluation.
Global Health & Health Equity
This course places India's health challenges in their global context and develops students' understanding of health equity as both an empirical reality and a design imperative.
Health Communication & Literacy Design
Health communication is one of the most consequential design domains in public health: how health information is communicated determines whether people understand their health and engage with health systems.
Health Innovation Entrepreneurship & Venture Design
Health innovation succeeds when good design is embedded in a viable organisational and financial model that can survive the complexity of health system adoption and regulatory approval.
Community Health Design & Preventive Innovation

This advanced studio engages students with health design challenges at genuine complexity: multi-stakeholder health systems where different actors have conflicting interests and consequences are difficult to predict.
Futures of Health & Care: Speculative & Anticipatory Design
This course uses speculative and anticipatory design methods to investigate the longer-term futures of health and care, designing responses that are imaginative, grounded, and genuinely useful.
Design Research Seminar: Health Systems, Technology & Society
This seminar develops the theoretical and methodological foundations for independent design research at the intersection of health systems, technology, and society.
Critical Perspectives on Health Technology, AI & Digital Ethics
This course develops students' capacity to engage with contested questions in health technology: AI in clinical decisions, health data governance, and the equity implications of precision medicine.
Population Health Design & Preventive Innovation Lab
This lab develops applied skills in population health design: interventions intended to shift health outcomes at the level of populations rather than individuals.
Capstone Preparation Lab: Research, Framing & Methods
This lab is the direct preparation for the Capstone.

Semester 8

An independently authored health and care design project.
Capstone Health & Care Design Studio
The Capstone Health & Care Design Studio supports the execution of the design dimension of the student's independently authored Capstone project.
Capstone Innovation & Strategy Studio
The Capstone Innovation & Strategy Studio supports the innovation strategy, regulatory, and economic dimensions of the Capstone project.
Capstone Seminar: Design Thesis & Argumentation
The Capstone Seminar develops the written and argumentative dimension of the Capstone, documenting the research and design process at a professional standard.
Ethics, Leadership & Responsibility in Health Design
This course brings the program's ethical and professional commitments to their conclusion in the final semester.
Professional Portfolio, Evaluation & Reflection
This is the culminating course of the program and the largest single credit-bearing outcome of the degree.

Core Track

The curriculum includes a dedicated core track in Smart Hardware & IoT Product Engineering, as well as two shared optional pools in AI-Native and AI-Integrated Product Engineering. These paths enable students to develop technical expertise in hardware design, embedded systems, software development, and applied AI.
Smart Hardware & IoT Product Engineering
The primary, dedicated track focused on physical product engineering, covering electronics, PCB design, embedded intelligence, wireless protocols, and design-for-manufacture.
AI-Native Digital Product Engineering
An optional shared track focusing on software creation using AI coding assistants, cloud backend infrastructure, AI design systems, and product strategy.
AI-Integrated Product Engineering
An optional shared track emphasizing the embedding of AI capabilities into products, covering data quality pipelines, computer vision, AI ethics, and MLOps deployment.

Graduate Pathways

Graduate pathways indicate the specialized profiles that students attain by combining core subjects with certain electives—for example, Hardware-First Engineers, AI-Software Hybrids, or Venture Founders. They train students for a variety of industry professions, including hardware R&D and smart product leadership positions, as well as research and entrepreneurial enterprises.
Hardware-First Smart Product Engineer
The default core pathway producing IoT/embedded product engineers who specialize in bringing connected hardware from circuit design to full field deployment alongside studio design skills.
Technical-Hybrid Engineer (Software & AI Integrated)
A customized pathway for students using shared electives to pair hardware engineering with skills in building companion apps, directing AI software tools, or integrating computer vision.
Honours-with-Research Pathway

Repro House - For CD 3rd Year
Organized for 3rd-year CD students, the Reproscan Printing Press visit offered hands-on exposure to publication design, printing, and finishing processes bridging theory and practice while deepening understanding of the printing industry.
Visit to Swades Village
As part of the Design Research and Ethnographic Study course, Communication Design students from ATLAS SkillTech University collaborated with the Swades Foundation for a two-day immersion in Raigad villages, gaining firsthand insights into rural life, culture, and development initiatives.
Jaipur Immersion
The objective was to take them through the cultural, art and monumental heriatge of Jaipur. We also attended Workshops -Block printing , hand painting, Meenakari, Puppet making (storytelling) Meenakari jewellery. Blue pottery, Lac bangle making, Phad paintings

During their Jaipur trip, CD students explored the art of block printing, witnessing artisans carve intricate wooden blocks and trying the craft themselves, mixing colors, aligning patterns, and experiencing the joy of bringing designs to life.
Portfolio Review with Tanu Sinha (Design head Pepsico India)
3rd and 4th year CD students showed their portfolio work to PepsiCo and South Asia, head designer Tanu Sinha. She loved the work and gave them good feedback to improve on them. She was all praise for their maturity, skills and confidence in presenting.
Blue pottery workshop at Jaipur
During their Jaipur visit, CD students met skilled Blue Pottery artisans, learning about the craft’s Persian origins, Jaipur’s role as its hub, and the intricate process from molding to glazing while also understanding the challenges artisans face in preserving this traditional art.

Varshitha Injeti - Sustainable Packaging
Made from agar-based bioplastic, this flexible, translucent material combines agar, glycerine, and water with natural dyes like turmeric, chili, and beetroot, plus flower petals for decoration air-dried to create a sturdy, biodegradable sheet.
Mayuri Shewale - Biodegradable watch case
Created from groundnut shells. Often considered agricultural waste, groundnut shells have garnered attention for their potential applications across various industries due to their unique chemical composition and properties.
Maize leaf envelope
This innovative packaging for jewellery is made from naturally dried maize leaves. The leaves are removed and dried, then a coating is applied to keep the from leaves from drying out. They are woven together like a mat, and cut tinto shape. They retain stiffness and can be lined with cotton or paper, making a good alternative to bubble wrap envelopes.
Visual narratives
The narrative, “Nostalgia Through the Senses,” follows Aisha as she returns home unannounced after months away. Each sensory cue sight, sound, touch, and smell evokes vivid memories, immersing her in moments from the past.
Siddhi Thakur - Consumer Psychology Tricks
The students were taught various psychology tricks that brands use to increase their revenue, gain more customers and make them loyal. The students then chose a brand of their choice and thoroughly studied the communication to identify the psychological tricks.
